Are armed security agents considered law enforcement?
Law enforcement is defined as a group of government officials that enforce laws and monitor, discover, and punish those who violate them. As armed security agents, they are not members of the government and are considered private citizens, so though they have training for the use of firearms, they are not considered law enforcement in a court setting.
Can armed agents touch you?
Armed agents are permitted to use reasonable force when restricting a dangerous individual or group. Excessive force is not common, but in emergency situations can become necessary. These agents are there for the public’s safety, though, so as long as there is a mutual understanding of the law and respect thereof, there is no need for force to be used.
